TORONTO — Sara Anghel, president & CEO of the Greater Toronto Hotel Association (GTHA), recently led the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), presenting the GTHA’s strategic priorities for 2023 to 2026.

Those priorities included proactively influencing legislation, regulations, and decisions that affect the industry; raising the GTHA’s profile with key decision makers and stakeholders; cultivating a positive public image of the hotel industry for customers and workers; and delivering the right programs and events to help member businesses thrive.

Since last year’s AGM, Anghel said the association has hit a number of key growth markers, including record attendance at its annual Spirit Awards in 2023 and six formal submissions on critical policy issues. The GTHA also participated in more than 20 advocacy meetings with key decision makers and had representation at more than 30 industry events.

Anghel also shared GTHA’s expanded participation in key policy decisions impacting member hotels in the cities of Toronto, Mississauga and Brampton, including MAT implementation and increases; short-term rentals by-law changes; and parking levy updates.

She said a key priority for the association will be relationship-building with provincial and federal hotel and tourism organizations to encourage information sharing and promote Greater Toronto Area industry interests.
