Marriott Hotels of Canada Team with Don Cleary at le Grand defi Pierre Lavoie charity bike race

TORONTO — On June 9, Don Cleary, president of Marriott Hotels of Canada, led a team of 25 delegates from across Quebec during the 1,000 km le Grand defi Pierre Lavoie charity bike race.

The race takes place over a 60-hour span — beginning in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean with major stops in several of Quebec’s cities — and ending in Montreal.

The team has been working tirelessly towards its goal of raising $100,000 for a local elementary school as part of Le Fondation du Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie’s mission to support the development and promotion of any activity that contributes to the adoption of a more active lifestyle, mainly among young people, as well as the cause of orphan hereditary diseases which, because of their rarity, attract little attention from researchers.

The final tally on the bike race was $125,000 — $25,000 over the team’s target. This is Cleary’s second time participating in the event, but marks the largest team effort by Marriott Canada to date.
