The Chelsea Hotel Receiving Tourism Employer of the Year

TORONTO — The Chelsea Hotel, Toronto has been awarded Tourism Employer of the Year at the annual Ontario Tourism Awards of Excellence gala event on October 23. The awards are presented to organizations, businesses and individuals that represent the quality of outstanding offerings that make Ontario a world-class destination.

The Chelsea Hotel, Toronto has been a recognized employer in downtown Toronto for almost 50 years (the hotel opened in 1975), currently employing more than 600 hospitality professionals. Known in the industry as Chelsea U (Chelsea University), the hotel has successfully developed and groomed dozens of leaders who are now leading hospitality and tourism organizations in Canada and throughout the world.

The hotel is an affiliate property of Langham Hotels and Resorts, but also remains an independent brand and has put in place people programs and policies that are specific to the needs of the employees.

The hotel embraces and celebrates the diversity of its workforce. There are more than 25 nationalities, with all five generations represented. The hotel enjoys a high colleague engagement score and has several colleagues still employed that started working for the hotel in 1976, one year after it opened.
